GETTING STARTED
Hosting your own car show at a nearby retirement village, senior or assisted living center, or a nursing home isn't as hard as it might initially seem. Follow the steps below to get started, or send us your contact information so that we may assist!

Research Local Car Clubs
Local car club members are often eager to share their passion for vintage vehicles with others! Use this list to help you get connected to a car club near you.

Solicit Car Owner Participation
It's time to make those calls to ensure you will have an adequate number of cars for residents to view (10-15 is often enough to make a great show without being overwhelming). It helps to emphasize the service-oriented nature of the event when pitching the idea as many car clubs and owners are quick to say "yes" in service to elders. You might also offer to include their name in promotional and news materials as a thank you for their participation.

Contact Your Chamber of Commerce
Chamber directors possess up-to-date knowledge and contact information for both local car enthusiasts and assisted living facilities. To find your local chamber of commerce, start here.

Schedule the Event
You'll want to follow the facility's lead when it comes to the best day of the week and time of day for residents and families to attend. Assisted living facilities host a variety of events year- round for residents and it will be important to schedule far enough in advance, typically a few months, to ensure your event is not competing with other already scheduled activities or routines. Late morning or early afternoon seem to be popular times for residents to most enjoy the event, but the facility can help you select a time that maximizes the experience for residents. Make sure to have a "plan B" in case of inclement weather!

Construct a Proposal
Before you contact car clubs and assisted living facilities, you will need a plan that includes potential car show dates and times, the anticipated duration of the event, the number of vehicles you aim to include, and how you will promote and manage the event itself.

Helpful Tips

Make sure cars are parked in accessible viewing spaces free from trip and fall hazards or obstacles. Advertising the event in advance to residents and families, partnering with other organizations who might provide donated food (ice cream sundaes are often a hit), providing visible event signage, and connecting with local news organizations to promote the event and capture residents' smiles are key ingredients to success. Most importantly, don't forget to enjoy the moment and swapping your best car stories with residents!
